Metro Manila — The transport organization Pagkakaisa ng mga Samahan ng Tsuper at Opereytor Nationwide (PISTON) has announced plans for a further nationwide transport strike on December 14 and 15. This action is a continued demonstration against the government’s public utility vehicle (PUV) modernization program, particularly opposing the deadline for franchise consolidation.
PISTON National President Mody Floranda, in a press conference on Monday, mentioned the possibility of extending the strike depending on future developments.
Floranda confirmed that the strike would occur not only in Metro Manila but also in various regions across the country.
The group previously organized a transport strike from November 20 to 22, which led to the transition to online classes for several schools in Metro Manila.
The Land Transportation and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) had earlier clarified that the modernization program is not aimed at completely removing traditional jeepneys, provided they meet roadworthiness standards.
