Metro Manila — Senator Imee Marcos has expressed her agreement with Vice President Sara Duterte’s call for the government to rethink granting amnesty and re-engaging in peace talks with communist factions.

“Yes. That’s the short answer,” Marcos responded to journalists on Wednesday.

“I’ll provide a more detailed statement when I’m prepared,” she stated.

Vice President Duterte, who also serves as the vice chair of the government’s anti-communist task force, clarified her stance against the new peace initiatives with the National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDFP) this Monday.

Her remarks followed speculations about potential tensions within her UniTeam alliance, headed by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., especially after the House of Representatives decided to cut ₱650 million in confidential funds from the proposed 2024 national budget.

However, according to the president’s sister, differing views between the two high-ranking officials do not undermine the strength and unity of their alliance.

“It’s possible to remain allied even if there is disagreement on certain issues,” she commented.

[Translation: You can remain allies even if you don’t agree on every issue.]

Marcos emphasized that these differing viewpoints ensure that every perspective is considered, respected, and valued.
